Avengers 2, Age of Ultron. Avengers Assemble, OMG!...WTH Ultron?

Marvel entertainment wowed us all (…mostly all) with the release of the Avengers movie (…love you Tony) and we have got to say, that was one movie. Introducing the general to fan favorite Marvel superheroes like billionaire playboy Tony Stark aka Iron man, the time lost soldier Captain America, the Asgardian thunder god Thor, the indestructible smashing Hulk, the arrow wielding pinpoint shooter S.H.I.E.L.D secret agent (…whew!) Hawk Eye, sexy super spy S.H.I.E.L.D secret agent Black Widow and the super intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D.
We all have our favorites already and with the next release due May 2015, it is safe to say we are biting our lips to tame our excitement and watch them in action.

The second Avengers movie titled ‘Age of Ultron’ will once again feature our favorite band of Marvel superheroes going up against a…robotic foe. New members are said to be introduced to the Avengers team so look out for them as we won’t be giving any spoilers here but what we can say (…comic fans should know what to expect mostly) is that the Avengers go through some serious reality shattering episode.

Here’s a video link to watch the trailer and try to contain yourself…seriously, try.

Android Lollipop pops.

It can be said that literally every phone user has come across an Android device at some point, some with user experience too so when we pick to look at the new Android version released then your interest should even in the slightest be piqued.

Named Lollipop (Android 5.0) it doesn’t come as a surprise as some of you already follow the naming convention of the Android platform. For those not in the know, let’s bring you up to speed shall we.
We’ll take it from here;
-          Donut (we don’t even remember any device that used this version, that’s how old it was).
-          Éclair (…hmmm, naah! Don’t ring a bell either).
-          Froyo (ooh ooh! we know this one, you’d be surprised quite a number of devices still run on this. Version 2.2 we suppose).
-          Gingerbread (version 2.3, seemingly, this was one of the most stable Android versions released).
-          Honeycomb (V3.0, was not popular as it was released mostly for tablets at the time though).
-          Ice Cream Sandwich (V4.0, the popular ICS update brought major innovative looks to the Android platform).
-          Jelly Bean (V4.1 - 4.3, this version started the whole Project Butter thing on the Android platform, the ‘butter’ reference was in relation to how buttery smooth the UI was…well it was, mostly).
-          KitKat (V 4.4, partnering with the popular chocolate candy brand KitKat Chocolates, this version brought improved security additions to the Android platform…then there was Snowden).
-          Lollipop (V5.0, just released and fresh out the pot, this…well, that’s what this post is about).

We’ve seen the preview and we have got to say that Android is bringing the heat when it comes to design, creativity and Productivity. Launched with the new 2014 Nexus line of devices, the update will gradually be seeded via OTA first to previous Google devices (from Nexus 4 up it seems) and then your device company but it should be noted as Android users and follows should have noticed, not all devices will automatically get this update as that is your device company that decides which product does and which doesn’t.

Verdict: innovation drives the world and we do commend Google on this new release. We can hope it exceeds our expectations more than less.
Well done Google Android, we must say…now we want a Lollipop (*those candy images*).

THE NEW NEXUS GOT YOUR 6 COVERED.

Google has announced their current device and will be available to order by the end of the month October 2014. The Nexus 6 like the previous generation of Nexus line comes with premium looks and specs leaving you with all your needs covered (…as for your wants, eeeeh!!!). Motorola are the company behind the new Nexus and as we covered before, the device strikes an uncanny resemblance with the 2014 Moto X device…well, except the interchangeable back which were not sure if the Nexus got that.
Here’s what the Nexus 6 is packing;
-          Android 5.0 Lollipop (completely redesigned Android UI…well mostly redesigned).
-          6” display with a pixel density of 496 for super sharpness and crispness.
-          Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with a 2.65GHz quad-core Krait 450 CPU.
-          32GB / 64GB of internal storage…sadly no memory card support.
-          3GB of RAM.
-          13MP f/2.0 camera with dual-LED flash at the back and a 2MP front-facing (…as we call em now, selfie) camera.
-          A sealed in 3,220mAH battery unit which should technically give you a full day if intensive usage. The Nexus 6 also comes with something called Turbo Charging in which you get 6hrs of battery life from just 15mins of charging (…sounds pretty good to us).
-          A price tag of…569 and 649 Euros respectively (…ummm! N120, 059.00 and N136, 939.72 respectively). O_O we are sealing our lips on this one Google.

Think the Nexus 6 is for you, shipments will be arriving in major markets sometime in November 2014 but doubt we’ll be getting it here then, but then again, you never know.

Verdict: the Nexus 6 is quite an awesome device but we got to say, that price tag has our eyes still bulging out Google. For those who think the screen size just isn’t right for them, you can always get the Nexus 5 which is an amazing device still and will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update so nothing missed there.

ANDROID T.V DEVICE, THE NEXUS PUCK (NEXUS PLAYER).

Alongside the announced Nexus 6 phablet and Nexus 9 tablet comes the Nexus Player (which looks like a hockey puck)…taadaaaa!!!

The Nexus Player is a console you connect to your TV via HDMI allowing you to stream media contents like movies and music, also you get access to Google’s Android app store (…like your Android smartphone) and content sync across your android devices (meaning, all content on your Android smart device(s) can become available on the Nexus Player also gaming records and media continuation). The device also has the Google Chromecast features built in, a 1.8 GHZ quad-core Intel Atom CPU, Wi-Fi, HDMI and a voice search capable remote which lets you search for media and apps available in Google Play with a press of a button and saying its name (…pretty neat, we like).

Everything is getting all smart these days and with other smart TV consoles from Apple, Amazon and coming Microsoft amongst others, it’s easy to get lost with the pick. If you have the opportunity to try em before deciding from your retailer then we guess it will be easy to decide though most likely than often your choice will be based on the OS your familiar with. Oh! The device comes with a game pad as well for more serious gaming though you have to pay a little extra for it.
The Nexus Player will be available in November 2014 at for 99 USD, the gamepad will cost an additional 39 USD.

FEEL THE PULS, YEA THAT’S RIGHT…PULS.

Check out this interesting wearable device from popular singer Will.i.am called the PULS.
Quick specs include;

-          SIM slot with 3g connectivity allowing gsm calling and texting.
-          Mirrored SIM allowing your phone and PULS to use the same number.
-          Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC.
-          1GB of RAM.
-          16GB of in-built storage.
-          GPS, music player, voice assistant, social networking, fitness app and music streaming.
Having a band device serving as a low end smart phone might not sound too appealing, then again it could just replace your backup phone (given the right price)…talking to your wrist will take some getting used to in public (GEEK ALERT!!!).

We must say, it does look quite fashionable but bulky on the wrist. Compared to the smartwatches flooding the market it does have commendable specs and it will seem this PULS can give them a run for their money…if marketed well.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 YOU?

Stylus smart devices are not as common as we would want but then again, how many of us really find need for that.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is out and buzzing, the in-depth details are all over the net so we are not going to be explaining all that and boring out your minds.

Let us dive into the device’s get-to-the-point details shall we.

·         5.7" (inches) 16M-color QHD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (515ppi) with curved Gorilla Glass 3 (scratch resistant).
·         Android OS v4.4.4 KitKat with toned down TouchWiz UI (closer to stock Android now).
·         LTE Cat 6 support.
·         Quad-core 2.7GHz Krait 450 CPU, Adreno 420 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset or a 1.9GHz octa-core Exynos 5433.
·         3GB of RAM.
·         16MP OIS camera (still can’t freeze frame the Flash though but brilliant enough) with 2160p video recording @ 30fps, 1080p @ 60fps, 720p @ 120fps.
·         3.7MP front-facing camera, 1440p video recording.
·         Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA, Download booster.
·         GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS.
·         32GB of built-in storage; microSD card slot up to 64GB.
·         S Pen stylus with 2x the sensors than the previous.
·         Enhanced Multi-window multitasking support.
·         Fingerprint scanner with PayPal support, private mode access, kids mode (keep them pests at bay),
·         microUSB 2.0 port (what a downgrade…sigh!) with USB host and MHL 2.0.
·         Bluetooth v4.0.
·         NFC.
·         IR port for remote control functionality.
·         Heart-rate monitor and blood-oxygen level monitor.
·         3,220mAh battery (should satisfy those power demanding users for a day +)

These basically cover everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s hardware and software package and we won’t go into dissecting them one by one either but what we will do is analyse if you NEED it or WANT it.

The key feature of the Note series is the stylus addition for scribbling, drawing and related so the question is, are you really into pen usage on a smart device?...a higher percentage probably isn’t but we must commend, the S-Pen stylus’ features really comes in handy as an artist or business professional. From taking quick notes to marking corrections in files, sketching an idea or just drawing creatively (don’t expect a full professional drawing suite though, just basics which should be fine).
Every other detail of the Note 4 is very close to any recent high end device but it does lack in some areas too like water and dust certification and a metal unibody design to mention current demands.

If you have a late 2013 or 2014 high end device then your chances of NEEDING the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is really low but if you’ve been seeking an upgrade from a relatively old device stuck with no future OS update from its manufacturer, then you can opt in for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Ignoring the first condition is basically your WANT driving you to the device but be cautious as early and mid-next year will be bringing even newer devices, soooooo…the fact that your pocket is large doesn’t count. Go do some charity work instead.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha line is Amaaa…not really.

The Samsung galaxy Alpha has struck a new trend for the giant mobile company and now a new line has been born from the Alpha…the Samsung Galaxy Alpha A-series.
A number of devices have already been previewed to the market tagged as the Samsung Galaxy Alpha A3, A5 and A7. What sets this new line apart from previous Samsung lines is basically the metallic framing as on the Samsung Galaxy Alpha…seems that’s pretty much it.

Releasing the first Alpha more in the territory of high-end device price apparently seems not to have met the tech giants’ expectations so naturally knowing their usual strategy, create similar devices with lower specs and flood the market. Yes Samsung, we caught on…it’s really too obvious now.

Not much info is known about the A7 but as for the A3 and A5, both will come with a Snapdragon 401 mid-range 64-bit processor, 8mpx and 13mpx rear cameras respectively with 5mpx front facing ones, super AMOLED screens…but a lower grade type seemingly, 4.5” and 5” qHD screens respectively, 1gb RAM, 16gb in-built storage expandable via micro SD slot.

We think: True, any Sammy hard-core fan will be tripping over this new metal framed Galaxy line (…which should have been done a long time ago than creating cheap plastic expensive devices for the market) but we can’t help but notice, are these devices really anything new?

There are a handful of Samsung devices already sporting very similar if not same specs and are cheaper sooooo, it would seem Sammy is re-branding those devices with a tiny bit of improvement (metal doesn't burn like plastic for what it’s worth) making them more elegant and putting them out for pocket questionable prices. Then again, it all comes down to customer preference.

going PLASTC.

Going PLASTC.

Here’s a little something smart that caught our attention and we’re sure yours too after reading this. Everyone has some kind of debit/credit card and most times we have more than one…not counting the online account types too we use in specific online stores. So apparently this company has thought of a wonderful new way to integrate all our cards and other account types into just one card and (ooh! here’s the good part) it a card-like computer, yes with a form of input, output and processing…pretty impressive we must say.

Looking in-depth from what we gathered, it has the following features;
-          Chip and PIN (for security).
-          E-ink Touchscreen (think of an advanced calculator screen type with touch).
-          Bluetooth (connectivity to smart devices e.g. phones, tablets etc.).
-          Flash Memory (up to 20 debit/credit/other card type info storage).
-          Rechargeable Battery (30-day charge…amazing).
-          Rewritable Magnetic Stripe (coding and recoding of info)
-          Rewritable RFID/NFC (communication with device).
-          Wireless Charging (how else could it be super thin).

It seems kind of impossible wouldn’t you say to have a card possess all these, but hey! Check out the link to see and learn more…oh! It’s not a free device by the way and we hope its pricing is convincing too.

https://www.plastc.com/card

Verdict: we love the innovation and we see this really becoming useful and possibly replacing our other cards in our wallets and pockets. It’s got very good protection against theft, it can link with your smart device and puts all your private data in one place…hmmm! Some people may not like that idea though but knowing your data will always be safe in worst case scenario should help in convincing us better.

In the end its adoption will be largely based on customer preference, affordability and availability (which new tech isn’t).

Kudos Plastc. Check out the images.

WINDOWS 9, NO ER…10.

When Windows introduced the 8 to succeed the 7 it was incredible news to Windows users and the dynamic change in the UI (user interface) was, well…eeer, beautiful but a bit difficult to grasp. With time though most users got around the UI and with the release of Windows 8.1 bringing back familiar patterns from 7, it was a sigh of relief for all (we were quite relieved about the improvements).

Moving on, Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 10 which begets the question, “what happened to 9?” Not that it really matters though but it does pique our curiosity.
The new Windows 10 is set to bring a number of interesting and functional improvements over the former.
Here is a quick outline of what to expect;
- A familiar Start menu (a blend of Windows 7 and 8).
- All apps will run in a window allowing you to minimize, expand or close.
- Quadrant snap layout, yes now you can snap up to 4 apps simultaneously on your desktop.
- New task view button allowing you to view and close all open apps.
- Real-time multiple desktops allowing you to work and resume where you left off on each.
- Improved File Explorer which will display your recent accessed files and frequently visited folders on start.

A quote from Windows states;
“Windows 10 will run across an incredibly broad set of devices – from the Internet of Things, to servers in enterprise datacenters worldwide. Some of these devices have 4 inch screens – some have 80 inch screens – and some don’t have screens at all. Some of these devices you hold in your hand, others are ten feet away. Some of these devices you primarily use touch/pen, others mouse/keyboard, others controller/gesture – and some devices can switch between input types.
We’re not talking about one UI to rule them all – we’re talking about one product family, with a tailored experience for each device.”

Here is also a video link to know more about the new Windows 10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84NI5fjTfpQ

Verdict: we like the new improvements coming in the Windows 10 and are looking forward to fully experiencing it. As a Windows user we can tell this release will improve productivity quite well and it being a free upgrade (so far seems legit) from Windows 8/8.1 only makes upgrading even better.
It is too early to say well done Windows until the customers have sang, let’s hope this isn’t another Vista in camouflage.
