Android Lollipop pops.

It can be said that literally every phone user has come across an Android device at some point, some with user experience too so when we pick to look at the new Android version released then your interest should even in the slightest be piqued.

Named Lollipop (Android 5.0) it doesn’t come as a surprise as some of you already follow the naming convention of the Android platform. For those not in the know, let’s bring you up to speed shall we.

We’ll take it from here;

-          Donut (we don’t even remember any device that used this version, that’s how old it was).

-          Éclair (…hmmm, naah! Don’t ring a bell either).

-          Froyo (ooh ooh! we know this one, you’d be surprised quite a number of devices still run on this. Version 2.2 we suppose).

-          Gingerbread (version 2.3, seemingly, this was one of the most stable Android versions released).

-          Honeycomb (V3.0, was not popular as it was released mostly for tablets at the time though).

-          Ice Cream Sandwich (V4.0, the popular ICS update brought major innovative looks to the Android platform).

-          Jelly Bean (V4.1 - 4.3, this version started the whole Project Butter thing on the Android platform, the ‘butter’ reference was in relation to how buttery smooth the UI was…well it was, mostly).

-          KitKat (V 4.4, partnering with the popular chocolate candy brand KitKat Chocolates, this version brought improved security additions to the Android platform…then there was Snowden).

-          Lollipop (V5.0, just released and fresh out the pot, this…well, that’s what this post is about).

We’ve seen the preview and we have got to say that Android is bringing the heat when it comes to design, creativity and Productivity. Launched with the new 2014 Nexus line of devices, the update will gradually be seeded via OTA first to previous Google devices (from Nexus 4 up it seems) and then your device company but it should be noted as Android users and follows should have noticed, not all devices will automatically get this update as that is your device company that decides which product does and which doesn’t.

 

Verdict: innovation drives the world and we do commend Google on this new release. We can hope it exceeds our expectations more than less.

Well done Google Android, we must say…now we want a Lollipop (*those candy images*).

THE NEW NEXUS GOT YOUR 6 COVERED.

Google has announced their current device and will be available to order by the end of the month October 2014. The Nexus 6 like the previous generation of Nexus line comes with premium looks and specs leaving you with all your needs covered (…as for your wants, eeeeh!!!). Motorola are the company behind the new Nexus and as we covered before, the device strikes an uncanny resemblance with the 2014 Moto X device…well, except the interchangeable back which were not sure if the Nexus got that.

Here’s what the Nexus 6 is packing;

-          Android 5.0 Lollipop (completely redesigned Android UI…well mostly redesigned).

-          6” display with a pixel density of 496 for super sharpness and crispness.

-          Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with a 2.65GHz quad-core Krait 450 CPU.

-          32GB / 64GB of internal storage…sadly no memory card support.

-          3GB of RAM.

-          13MP f/2.0 camera with dual-LED flash at the back and a 2MP front-facing (…as we call em now, selfie) camera.

-          A sealed in 3,220mAH battery unit which should technically give you a full day if intensive usage. The Nexus 6 also comes with something called Turbo Charging in which you get 6hrs of battery life from just 15mins of charging (…sounds pretty good to us).

-          A price tag of…569 and 649 Euros respectively (…ummm! N120, 059.00 and N136, 939.72 respectively). O_O we are sealing our lips on this one Google.

Think the Nexus 6 is for you, shipments will be arriving in major markets sometime in November 2014 but doubt we’ll be getting it here then, but then again, you never know.

Verdict: the Nexus 6 is quite an awesome device but we got to say, that price tag has our eyes still bulging out Google. For those who think the screen size just isn’t right for them, you can always get the Nexus 5 which is an amazing device still and will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update so nothing missed there.

FUN TIP.

Doing this was a bit tricky as you are about to find out but we pulled it through easy enough after some minor tweaks. It should work straight out for you though knowing you don’t mess with your browser settings and all…like us :p

Here- on your Google search page, search for “google gravity” and click the “I’m feeling lucky” button instead of the “search” button.

The result…taaadaaaaaa!!! feel free to move the objects about and watch them bounce around.

ANDROID T.V DEVICE, THE NEXUS PUCK (NEXUS PLAYER).

Alongside the announced Nexus 6 phablet and Nexus 9 tablet comes the Nexus Player (which looks like a hockey puck)…taadaaaa!!!

The Nexus Player is a console you connect to your TV via HDMI allowing you to stream media contents like movies and music, also you get access to Google’s Android app store (…like your Android smartphone) and content sync across your android devices (meaning, all content on your Android smart device(s) can become available on the Nexus Player also gaming records and media continuation). The device also has the Google Chromecast features built in, a 1.8 GHZ quad-core Intel Atom CPU, Wi-Fi, HDMI and a voice search capable remote which lets you search for media and apps available in Google Play with a press of a button and saying its name (…pretty neat, we like).

Everything is getting all smart these days and with other smart TV consoles from Apple, Amazon and coming Microsoft amongst others, it’s easy to get lost with the pick. If you have the opportunity to try em before deciding from your retailer then we guess it will be easy to decide though most likely than often your choice will be based on the OS your familiar with. Oh! The device comes with a game pad as well for more serious gaming though you have to pay a little extra for it.

The Nexus Player will be available in November 2014 at for 99 USD, the gamepad will cost an additional 39 USD.
