Automated driven vehicles at some point ago just seemed like a movie thing, seen in Total Recall (...Arnolds version) and some others, it is quite an interesting concept if you ask us (...and you are). we believe you would enjoy lounging away doing some productive task while been driven and knowing the rest of the vehicles around you are not deranged ill mannered touts that will drive you crazy before your destination is reached.
The LUTZ Pathfinder Pod is a London based initiative by RDM Group, the prototype will be built and tested in controlled environments later this year before it can be integrated into the British society.
The concept of the pod is to drive two people on a pedestrianized area, equipped with an array of sensors, camera and navigation technology developed by the University of Oxford's mobile robotics.
Our thoughts, we like this concept and will be looking forward to the end result. with the growing transportation sector around the world, this can bring about a better control system with a number of benefits like, less traffic time, less noise, less pollution, better response to emergency, less road blockage due to breakdowns (...or crazy drivers).
Relating this directly to our environment in Nigeria, a lot of states will benefit from such automated driven pods. Lagos for one with its traffic madness can become more forgiving to commuters. Here is hoping R&D is looked into more in the future.
